work on the go

Sunday, January 18, 2004

Hmm…well, went to Bristol on Friday night for a Two Sick Monkey/Nobody’s Heroes gig, and they had a slight shock when they got there to find the landlord had double booked the pub ( the Stapleton Tavern ) and the bit I liked, was when he found out he’d double-booked it, he poured himself a neat double vodka and downed it.My kinda guy…
The first band on, a Rockabilly cover band ( I’ve never heard Tainted Love roackabilly-stylee before, and I don’t think I ever want to again ) were not – to put it charitably – that great.
Rest of the night went well tho, if a little surreal…gobbing on someone’s guitar is never to be recommended tho.
Cleared out the garage recently to make room for making some more stretchers, 7 of them, got them mostly planned out this time tho, see I do learn lessons, even if it is slowly… ;)

public

Went to the opening of the Contemporary Open Art exhibition at the Arts Center last night. Was nice to hang around and watch people watching, people said some nice things to me, which chuffed me, saw some really funny work too.Someone had made a series of boxes, painted white, with ticks on them, and it was a comment on public art where it’s more important to tick the boxes rather than have a say, and he was asking 3,000,000 for it.It just made me laugh, and in a good way, not a laugh at someone way. Also really liked Toni and Gordon’s work, for Public Art, with the sheep and Giraffe wandering round Swindon. But my favourite was a view of Wootton Bassett road, with the word ‘Smile’ superimposed on the road signs. And Paul Rickett’s map of Old Town.

snow in england

Sunday, January 4, 2004

It’s the new year, I’m not ill anymore (woohoo!!) and I’ve been quite industrious, planted all the daffodil bulbs ( four bags of them, courtesy of my parents), filled in forms, done a new painting, a mixed media/haiku thing for this exhibition in the re-vamped Arts Centre in Old Town, Swindon. I’ll also be putting in the third part of the triptych, space permitting.
It snowed briefly yesterday morning, it melted almost straightaway, one day I’ll move to Canada and enjoy it ( or hate it, or both…) for more of the year.
Hope your new year is good, and the same for the rest of the year too
