shit happens but sometimes you look back and smile

Friday, March 24, 2006

one of the rare photos of me, and even rarer, i’m actually smiling ( yeah, i hear you asking whether the beer had anything to do with that…)….and that’s helge on the left, pete on the right

helge did a great line in physical comedy, always cheerful, always smiling, always taking the piss.

i don’t make friends very easily, i usually keep a distance for ages, months, sometimes years, but the blokes from spit on you were the kind of friends i’d like to have

pic copyright of matthias vollmer who i also have to thank for sending the photos

another monty python flying person moment

stonehenge

first time i’ve been there, and wouldn’t you know it ( see below ) it was shut despite promises to the contrary on the website
went to avebury a couple of weeks ago, a couple of friends visited and wanted to go. i can’t understand the fascination with these places except in a very abstract historical sense.
i get that look off people sometimes, the one that says ‘ i pity you because you don’t have a worthwhile life ‘
and i think, ‘nope, i’m just not into the things you are ‘
anyway, stonehenge was still there, no-one had stolen it, it was quite large, in an ancient large monument kind of way, and quite pretty too
ancient builders eh? just as bad as modern-day ones, can never finish a job…you can just imagine it, a group of druids standing round talking to the builder, and he says, ‘well, i can do it, but they’ve only got the right materials in wales, it’ll cost you, but i know a bloke down there who’ll do it mates rates…’, and then sending a pigeon saying ‘ we got a right bunch ‘ere, they’re desperate, charge ‘em double and we’ll split the take and if you can have a word with jones the log, he can take the transport costs’

hiatus

i’ve had a lot of fun and stress lately, a german hardcore band called spit on you have been staying with me and enjoying the delights of my non-existent bathroom and shower, but bless ‘em, they never complained, not even once…
they wanted to see some sights in the uk too, but wouldn’t you know it? everything we took them to see was either shut, or had just shut, the shops in swindon didn’t come up to scratch ( and this from a place that wants city status…what about encouraging independent shops as well as big chain outlets, lower the rent for fucks sake, or at least subsidise them….mind you, this from the same council that wanted to cut the arts budget to 2 grand or something silly like that…)

from left to right are :: matthias, robert, helge and rico

and what a lovely bunch of blokes they were ( and are ), and a fucking excellent band too
