a small rant

Tuesday, May 23, 2006

ok, i said i went life drawing and i did.

one thing i don’t understand. if you don’t know how the model is going to pose, what is the point of staying in one place and drawing from the same angle all day without even once wandering around to see how the body looks best to you, how the shapes change etc just from moving?

i understand it could get a bit complicated if everyone wants to draw something from the same angle, but that doesn’t really happen.

life drawing with too much hair

Monday, May 22, 2006

well, i went life drawing.

the morning was brilliant, i didn’t draw spectacularly, which is only to be expected if you don’t practice, but the poses were good, and i went with less equipment so i could only do the basics. rosemarie, i salute you

the afternoon…absolute rubbish.

the model ( a different one ) had pre-raphaelite hair, lovely hair, beautiful hair, very very long, very wavy, ophelia would have been jealous, but…you just don’t want to see it when you’re trying to draw someone’s body. and her poses were so boring, you know the type, sit, stand straight, lie down etc. which is all well and good if she was a beginner ( i didn’t ask ) . i’m not sure she suffers from the same syndrome that a lot of male models do – i’ve got all this hair, and that’s enough, whereas the male models are ‘i’ve got a penis and that’s enough’ . i ended up drawing everyone else drawing.

when i get some batteries for my camera, i’ll stick some of the least bad efforts up.
